S.S. Lazio Parachuting, Lazio Bowling and Special Olympics Italia: together for Sports for Different Heroes.

There is still a lot of misinformation about intellectual disability and that is why, within the support of Erasmus + , “Sport for Different Heroes” project was born. Five of the largest European sports clubs, Olympiacos, Red Star, Apoel, Hask Mladost and the SS Lazio Parachuting and bowling sections, have set themselves the goal of bringing this world to the attention of institutions and media, using sport as fundamental tool for integration, education and psycho-physical well-being of people with disabilities.
The project involves the dissemination of the message through training courses for instructors and coaches, organization, in the five nations involved, of multisport days with the support of major international sport champions. In September, two events will take place in the cities of Rome and Milan that will see people with disabilities, athletes and non-athletes engaged in indoor parachuting and bowling, together with personalities from the sports world.

It will be the first time for indoor parachuting where people involved will be able to experience total freedom in movements, and to realize the dream of every human being in total safety: flying. Dream that will be achievable thanks to the collaboration with Aero gravity Milan that will provide the location and their experience gained over the years in the world of disability. In Italy the two sport days will be supported by Special Olympics, an international organization founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968, which offers athletic training and competition for children and adults with and without intellectual disabilities.

We are happy and honored – said Special Olympics Italy Vice President, Alessandro Palazzotti – to be involved in this project, through which several Special Olympics athletes will have the opportunity to try indoor parachuting, in Milan as well as in Rome: it will be without no doubt a unique experience, but above all a wonderful opportunity that shows how everyone, in the right conditions, can “take flight”. Our athletes prove it every day by overcoming their limits and believing in their dreams. Sport represents an extraordinary means of personal growth but also collective thanks to initiatives of this type, accessible to all, which raise public awareness on the issue of intellectual disability. For this I thank the SS Lazio Parachuting and Aero Gravity.

Very pleased with the president of the SS Lazio Parachuting Carmine Della Corte, who has always been involved in the dissemination and promotion of air sports: “I deeply believe in this project and in this message. I am sure that indoor parachuting can become over time a reference sport for the world of intellectual disabilities. I thank Special Olympics Italia, for the collaboration that is fundamental for us for the success of this project and Aero Gravity Milan, without whose support it would not be possible to organize the event “.

“I am enthusiastic and at the same time proud of being able to meet such special people who have so much to teach us.” Said Sandro Andreotti, CEO of Aero Gravity “Sharing our flying experience makes us proud”.

“The SS Lazio Bowling will make available all the experience gained over the years in the field of intellectual disability” stressed Martino Pota, president of the association “it is important to bring more and more information about this world and sport is one of the the best tools to do this, our technicians and our kids are excited to be part of a project like Sports for differents heroes ”

The project, which also received the patronage of the Lazio Region, will conclude with a conference during which the experiences made in different countries will be illustrated so that from “best practice” one day may become daily activities.
